IT is surely Campion's title to lose now in Division One of the Northern Counties East League, as they stayed 12 points clear at the summit with a hard-fought 2-0 home win over Horbury Town on Saturday.

The visitors are fighting for promotion themselves, and put up fierce opposition at Scotchman Road, but the Bradford side won with a goal in each half, the first from captain Aidan Kirby, the second in second-half stoppage time courtesy of Patrick Sykes.

The hosts started brightly, with Sykes heading narrowly wide from Marcus Harper's cross in the opening 10 minutes.

Campion took the lead midway through the first half, Sykes producing some good footwork before finding Kirby, who crashed a fierce strike into the net.

That was how the score stayed until the break, with Campion struggling to fashion many chances.

Aidan Day went close with 20 minutes to go, sitting the Horbury defender down with a great piece of skill before firing the ball just over the crossbar.

Sykes made the game safe at the last though, firing the ball home with moments to go to wrap up another win for James Bicknell and Lee Ashforth's side.

Another side picking up an important victory on Saturday were Albion Sports.

They can surely now breathe a little easier after picking up a vital 1-0 win at relegation rivals Goole AFC.

On Mo Kaba's 300th appearance for the Bradford side, his team-mates helped him celebrate in style.

Adam Williams' header from a free-kick to the visitors hit the side netting, with Tabish Hussain also going close in the first half.

But Hussain was not to be denied in the 68th minute, as he controlled a lofted pass down the left, cut inside, and whipped a wonderful strike from outside the box into the bottom corner.

A solid display thereafter ensured Albion kept Goole out, and the victory moves them 10 points clear of the drop zone.

Elsewhere in the division, Silsden won 2-1 in their Bradford District derby at home to Thackley.

The visitors went in front when Carlton Pownall headed a corner into his own net midway through the first half.

But Ellis Hudson's penalty, after a foul on Joe Crosby, levelled the scores, before Luke Brooksbank curled in a wonderful winning goal.

The win keeps Silsden promotion push alive, while it was a first defeat for the Dennyboys under new joint-managers Tom Greaves and Danny Forrest.

Eccleshill United were left frustrated though, as having taken a two-goal lead into the break at Hallam, courtesy of Fernando Moke and Jack Crook, they had to settle for a 2-2 draw after a brace from former Liversedge forward Oliver Fearon.

Mid-table Steeton did get an away win though, and what a fine one it was in the North West Counties Football League First Division North.

They came from behind to stun leaders Pilkington 2-1, with the Chevrons' goals both coming from the prolific Andy Briggs.

Up in the Northern Premier League East Division, 12th-placed Brighouse Town could only draw 2-2 against visiting North Shields, Reon Benjamin-Potts and Nathaniel Crofts scoring the goals for the home side.

In the NPL Premier Division, Liversedge suffered a hammer blow in their relegation battle, losing 3-1 at home to rock-bottom Belper Town.

Jack Stockdill grabbed Sedge's goal as they now replace Belper at the foot of the table.

Jonathan Rimmington's side are now 10 points from safety, but do have several games in hand on most of the teams above them.

Guiseley are now just three points off the play-offs in that division after their 4-2 win at struggling Marske United.

Jameel Ible, Osebi Abadaki, George Smith and Kallan Murphy were all on target for the visitors up in the North-East.

Finally, in National League North, Farsley Celtic are just two points off safety, after Tom Allan headed home in the first half to give them a 1-0 win over visitors Hereford.

Frank Mulhern was sent off for the hosts with 10 minutes, but they held on to claim a vital victory.
