ALBION Sports have reached the West Riding County Cup semi-finals, having recorded a super 2-0 home win over Farsley Celtic last night.

The two sides are three tiers apart in the football pyramid, but Northern Counties East League Premier Division side Albion were good value for this win over their National League North opponents.

There was added intrigue to this game, with Albion the designated home side, despite the game being at Farsley's ground, The Citadel.

The Celts are the landlords, with Albion, historically a Bradford club, the tenants, having had to play their football in LS28 for several years now.

It was a relatively strong Farsley line-up too, with young Bradford City loanee Kian Scales, star central midfielder Bobby Johnson and former Irish top-flight regular Carlton Ubaezuonu all starting.

After a quiet start though, it was Albion who took the lead after 20 minutes, as a superb pass from Zak Khan found Hass Gorji, who slotted the ball past Farsley keeper Oliver Ford to give his side the lead.

Other than Johnson's free kick being headed wide by Farsley skipper Andy Butler, the 'visitors' were struggling to create chances, and things got worse for them just before the break.

A heavy challenge from Albion's Tom Ponter saw a scuffle break out, and Farsley's Isaac Assenso was sent off for his part in the melee.

Ten-man Farsley fell further behind when Albion skipper Aran Basi fired his side 2-0 up from long range five minutes into the second half.

Khan then saw a shot well saved by Ford, before Eisa Faulding's free kick from the halfway line caught the wind and ended up hitting the Farsley crossbar.

Ford made another good save with his feet late on, with Albion well worth the win.

They join Campion, Liversedge and Barnoldswick Town in the last four.

Speaking of Liversedge, they picked up a shock 1-0 Northern Premier League Premier Division home win over Gainsborough Trinity last night.

Trinity are in the play-off places, with Sedge fighting relegation, but the hosts are now only eight points from safety after Kurt Harris' first-half winner.

In the NPL East Division, Brighouse Town's hopes of the play-offs are fading after they lost 1-0 at high-flying Hebburn Town last night.

Finally, Thackley are up in mid-table now after winning 2-1 at home to Penistone Church in the NCEL Premier Division, with the Dennyboys' goals coming from Frankie Sinfield and player/joint manager Tom Greaves.
