CAMPION advanced into the Northern Counties East League League Cup third round last night, with a fine 1-0 win over visiting Yorkshire Amateur.

The Ammers are in the league above last night's hosts, but while they are bottom of the NCEL Premier, with just four points from 11 games, Campion are currently top of Division One.

It was a close-fought cup clash between the pair at Scotchman Road, with Reggie Waud hitting the post for the visitors in the first half.

But Campion served notice of their attacking threat when Daniel Keane headed inches wide for them on the stroke of half-time.

And Michael O'Brien gave the hosts the lead early in the second half, drilling a fine strike into the bottom corner from 20 yards out after Ammers only half-cleared a corner.

Gervas Chipasha, the substitute goalkeeper for the visitors, pulled off a couple of fine late saves to keep his side in it, but one goal was enough to send Campion through in the end.

Silsden bowed out last night though, the mid-table Premier Division outfit suffering a surprise 3-2 defeat at Division One strugglers Ollerton Town.

The hosts found themselves 2-0 up just after the break thanks to Alfie Dodsworth's brace, with his first from the penalty spot.

But Luke Brooksbank equalised after an hour, before Talent Ndlovu popped up to equalise in the 88th minute.

The game was not over though, and Nathan Murr popped up with a last-gasp winner for Ollerton.

Albion were in NCEL Premier Division action last night, earning a creditable 1-1 draw at home to high-flying Handsworth.

The visitors opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark through Samuel Smith, but Robbie Fox equalised for Albion soon after.

Albion remain 15th in the table after the draw, but have now edged seven points clear of danger.

Thackley made serene NCEL League Cup progress on Tuesday night, winning 2-0 at home to Swallownest.

Veteran defender Ryan Basi headed in the opener for the Dennyboys on 20 minutes, with Amir Berchil firing home their second on the counter attack just after the break.

Brighouse Town's game at home to Pontefract Collieries in the Northern Premier League East Division on Tuesday was abandoned after just 15 minutes of play.

Lloyd Allinson, Pontefract's goalkeeper, suffered a serious head injury, and with both physios tending to him, he was eventually taken away by an ambulance, meaning an early finish to the encounter.

Fortunately, after a trip to A&E, scans revealed nothing was broken, and Allinson has since used his social media accounts to thank those who looked after him on Tuesday night.

The abandonment means Brighouse remain fourth in the table, with Pontefract just a point behind them in seventh.

As for this Saturday's games, high-flying Eccleshill United, who were without a game in midweek, host mid-table Maltby Main in the NCEL Premier Division.

Thackley are at rock-bottom Ammers, while Silsden visit second-place side Emley.

Albion are at home to fellow strugglers Bottesford Town.

In Division One of the NCEL, Campion will be looking to move further clear at the summit with a home win over Ollerton.

Elsewhere, Steeton travel to Nelson for an Edward Case Cup second round north tie.

Brighouse are off to mid-table Bridlington Town for a league game on Saturday, while in the FA Trophy third qualifying round, Liversedge travel to FC United of Manchester and Guiseley host Whitby Town.

Finally, in National League North, lowly Farsley Celtic face a tough game at high-flying Kidderminster Harriers.
