ALBION Sports bowed out of the FA Vase in dramatic circumstances yesterday, losing a thriller 4-3 at home to Whickham.

The second qualifying round match at The Citadel had to be played on a Sunday, due to landlords Farsley Celtic being in National League North action on Saturday, when they drew 2-2 with Spennymoor Town.

But Albion's game was worth the wait, and they were 2-0 up at half-time courtesy of Ryan Clay and Hass Gorji.

Jamie Dunn halved the deficit, but Helmo Silva's goal midway through the second half gave Albion a seemingly comfortable 3-1 lead.

But Shay Richardson and Dunn both netted in quick succession to make the score 3-3, and Whickham pinched the win in the final minute courtesy of Nathan Greenwood.

Campion progressed though, pulling off a superb 2-0 win at Heaton Stannington courtesy of two goals in a minute early on from Joseph Colley and Patrick Sykes.

The reward is a home tie with Bacup Borough in the first round proper.

Eccleshill United also grabbed a 2-0 win, courtesy of early goals from Joao Silva and Takuo Jitsukawa against Cleator Moor Celtic. They visit Seaham Red Star in the next round.

Thackley won 2-1 at Knaresborough Town, conceding early but turning it round through a Tom Greaves penalty and an Aiden Chippendale strike.

Both sides finished a fiery game with 10 men apiece, but it was the Dennyboys who prevailed, and they have been rewarded with a first round tie at Brandon United.

A last-gasp goal from Jos Bradshaw saw Silsden take their Vase game at Harrogate Railway Athletic to penalties, but the hosts won the shootout 5-3.

Neighbours Steeton suffered the same fate.

They drew 3-3 at Horden Community Welfare, with Ben Wignall netting a late equaliser to add to earlier strikes from the visitors courtesy of Luke Baldwin and Toby Jeffrey.

But they bowed out after losing the shoot-out 3-2.

In the Northern Premier League East Division, Brighouse Town are sitting pretty in fifth, winning 3-0 at the weekend against Shildon, Tom Haigh, Jack Normanton and Jack Boyle all netting.

In the NPL Premier Division, Nathan Cartman and Zac Dearnley gave Liversedge a 2-1 half-time lead at home to Warrington Rylands.

But a second-half collapse, not helped by a Connor Smythe red card, saw the hosts lose 5-2.

In the same division, Guiseley also lost, a Jordan Fagbola own goal not enough to stop them losing 2-1 at Hyde United.

Sedge and Guiseley are both in FA Trophy action this coming weekend.

The former are at FC United of Manchester in the third qualifying round, with the latter to host Whitby Town at Nethermoor.
