SOME of our non-league clubs got pre-season underway over the weekend, with the standout game a Yorkshire Trophy clash between Campion and Albion Sports at Scotchman Road.

In a thrilling contest, the former emerged with a 3-2 win to take the early control in Group B.

Campion went in front early on as new signing Dan Illingworth headed home an Aidan Kirby corner, before Albion forward Jahro Parchment equalised by finishing off a nice team move.

Joe Colley found the net following a corner as Campion retook the lead, before Albion new boy Tabish Hussain missed an absolute sitter to level.

The visitors then had a goal disallowed for offside, and instead it was the Red and Blacks who increased their advantage courtesy of Paddy Sykes turning home a rebound.

An Albion trialist halved the deficit, but the away side could not find that all important equaliser.

Thackley fielded a different side in each half for their game against Ilkley Town, and despite their best efforts, the Bradford side succumbed to a 1-0 defeat.

Brighouse Town went up against Huddersfield Town's B team and ended up losing 3-1.

Eccleshill United were due to host Farsley Celtic, but withdrew to unforeseen circumstances.

Steeton were meant to entertain Barnoldswick Town in the Archie Airdrie Trophy on Saturday too, but that was also called off due to unforeseen circumstances.

In a statement addressing the postponement, Steeton said: "This is due to reasons beyond either club's control and we are looking at alternative dates to re-schedule the game."

Steeton and Eccleshill were due to face each other tomorrow, but that has also been cancelled due to reasons beyond either club's control.
