BRIGHOUSE Town Women were given a scare by Sheffield FC on Thursday night, but eventually won their FA Women's National League Northern Premier Division clash 1-0.

Brig are in mid-table heading into today's final home game of the season at home to champions Wolves, but with Sheffield going down having won only twice all term, Brig might have expected an easy ride on home soil.

But despite a one-on-one chance for Leah Embley after 17 minutes, the hosts struggled to create much before the break.

Sheffield even had a shot cleared off the line early in the second half, but it was Brighouse who eventually broke the deadlock when Imogen Williams struck a shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

Brig are seventh in the 13-team table but with three games left, have a slim chance of finishing as high as fourth.
