CAMPION finally grabbed their first win of the North West Counties Football League First Division North season, making it fourth time lucky with a 3-1 home win over Cleator Moor Celtic.

Having lost their first three games, Campion came into this one determined to put things right, and made a great start, with skipper Aidan Kirby breaking the offside trap to score in just the second minute.

Cleator Moor then put a header just wide, before Kirby had a second ruled out for offside.

But soon after, Campion made it two anyway, with Jason Carney's cross to the back post turned in by Daniel Keane.

Kirby should have made it three when he missed a good chance after fine work by Mark Ferguson, but just before half-time, he eventually bagged that brace, when he glanced home Keane's header back across goal.

Cleator Moor were much improved after the break, and scrambled the ball into the net through Jordan Little in the 51st minute.

The visitors pushed hard in the second half, but were unable to get past Campion stopper Liam Lovell, who made a number of fine saves to ensure Campion grabbed the three points.

In the same division, Steeton once again let in an injury-time goal, and were forced to settle for a 3-3 draw at Bacup Borough, with Andy Briggs' brilliant hat-trick proving in vain.

In the Northern Counties East League Premier Division, Eccleshill grabbed their first league win of the season, with a magnificent 5-1 success at newly-promoted Emley.

Andy Cooper, Aiden Day, Sumaili Cissa, Zackary Sangster and Ellis Wade were all on target for the Eagles.

Thackley were on the wrong end of a thumping. Behind within 60 seconds at Winterton Rangers, their night did not get much better, and they lost 4-0.

Albion Sports remain second-bottom after they lost 1-0 at home to Staveley Miners Welfare.

Silsden came from behind to lead 2-1 at the break against Barton Town, courtesy of goals from strikers Mo Qasim and Joe Jagger.

But the Cobbydalers were forced to settle for a point after their visitors equalised late on.

In the Northern Premier League East Division, Liversedge made it two wins from two after beating Tadcaster Albion 3-1. Nicholas Walker, Joe Walton and Kurt Harris all netted for them.

Finally, Brighouse Town were left sore after a 2-1 defeat at Frickley, with their goal in the defeat coming courtesy of a Laurence Sorhaindo header.
