West Riding County Cup final: Selby Town 1 Farsley Celtic 4
FARSLEY Celtic lifted the West Riding County Cup last night for a second consecutive season.
As an Evo-Stik League Premier Division club, they were huge favourites against Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One side Selby Town at County HQ at Woodlesford, but the Robins turned in a spirited display despite the scoreline.
The Celts had a dream start as Paul Walker slotted past Selby keeper Chris Barrett to end a good move in the second minute.
Barrett dived to save a good header from Nathan Cartman midway through the first half, and the Robins’ Joe Dale missed a glorious chance to level the tie minutes before the half-hour mark.
Adam Lakeland’s men never looked back after grabbing a goal minutes before the break as Cartman tucked home a low centre from Walker.
The cup was won inside a three-minute spell ether side of the hour as the Celts doubled their lead.
Walker and Cartman were involved in the build-up to the third and Luke Parkin, who had caused the Selby defence problems all night, drilled a shot into the bottom corner.
Minutes later, a header from Adam Clayton came back off the bar and Cartman pounced to slot past Barrett.
Celts keeper Kyle Trennery didn’t keep a clean sheet, however, as Liam Flanagan bagged a consolation strike ten minutes from time, and it was the least the Robins deserved.
Thackley slipped to a third defeat on the trot in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division as they went down 1-0 at Barton Town.
The Swans’ Gareth Barlow netting the only goal of the game seven minutes into the second half.
