LIVERSEDGE notched a comfortable 3-0 win at Station View against struggling Harrogate Railway Athletic in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division.

Sedge took an early lead when Brad Davies found the top corner with a fine strike from a wide angle in the seventh minute, and they doubled their advantage before the break when Rhys Davies added a second.

The contest was over three minutes into the second half when Joe Walton headed in Sedge’s third to hand boss Jonathan Rimmington his first target – almost.

The Liversedge manager insisted that he wanted to reach the watershed of 40 points that is considered the safety mark, and with 14 games still to go they are now on 39.

Last night could have been an even bigger win had Rail’s keeper not saved a second-half penalty, denying Rhys Davies a brace.

Sedge’s lower mid-table rivals Albion Sports had home advantage but suffered a heavy defeat to Bottesford Town, who remain immediately above Rimmington’s side.

The Scunthorpe-based outfit ran amok in the second half at Throstle Nest.

The visitors led 1-0 at half-time – Lee Ridley grabbed the opener minutes before the break – but three goals inside 13 second-half minutes took Bottesford into an unassailable lead.

In the 55th minute, Alex Holden doubled the visitors’ tally, and Craig Bridge added another soon after before Holden bagged his brace to make it 4-0.

Late goals from Stephen McCarron and Declan Bacon heaped more misery on the Albion Lions.

Campion pulled off a morale-boosting Division One victory by 1-0 at second-placed Grimsby Borough.

The first half was goalless, but James Bicknell’s men went in front after Boro had lost two players to ill discipline. The home side were reduced to nine men in the second half after both were dismissed for dissent in the same incident.

The red and blacks made the most of the numerical advantage, and Lee Bradshaw netted a superb 25-yard strike to win the game.

Eccleshill United could have profited from that with a win at mid-table AFC Emley, but only just rescued a point from their game thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser.

Eagles substitute Liam Hudson netted a volley five minutes into time added on to snatch a draw as both teams ended with ten men.

Jonny Irving opened the scoring with a top-corner finish in the sixth minute, and Sean Regan’s men held that advantage going into the break.

Curtis Roberts hit Emley’s equaliser 20 minutes from time, and Alex Slack must have thought he’d won it for the home side when he put them in front in the 88th minute but Hudson and the Eagles had other ideas.

Matt Mathers was the Eccleshill player shown a red card seven minutes into the second half for a second bookable offence, while Emley were reduced in numbers in the 81st minute, with their man also taking an early bath for two yellows.

A win for Eccleshill would have put them joint third on goal difference, with two games in hand on Grimsby Borough.
