SEVERE wet weather, following the previous weekend’s big freeze caused by the ‘Beast from the East’ again decimated the Toolstation Northern Counties East League and led to six of the area’s 10 semi-pro clubs facing postponement frustration.

The highest-ranking non-league casualty was Farsley Celtic’s Evo-Stik League Premier Division fixture,

Their away game at Witton Albion was postponed after a mid-morning inspection at Wincham Park.

It wasn’t a wasted day for Adam Lakeland’s men, however, as they had an indoor training session but the postponement did cost them fourth place in the table.

Farsley are now fifth, still just inside the play-off places, after Ashton United’s 3-0 home win over Halesowen Town helped them leapfrog both Farsley and Shaw Lane to go into third as six of 11 games in the division fell to waterlogged pitches.

The emphasis on league places in the top tier of the Northern Counties East League is parochial as Liversedge, Albion Sports and Thackley were 13th, 14th and 15th respectively going into the weekend.

They remain in those lower mid-table positions after Albion’s home game against leaders AFC Mansfield, Sedge’s home game against ninth-placed Bridlington Town and Thackley’s trip to lowly Staveley Miners' Welfare were all off.

All of the clubs are facing fixture chaos in the last two months of the campaign - none more so than Sedge, who are due to be in action tonight.

Jonathan Rimmington’s men are set for a trip to Bottesford Town – weather permitting.

Eccleshill United and Campion remain in second and 11th, respectively, in Division One after they were both left sidelined.

The Eagles were due to travel to Winterton Rangers, while Campion’s home game against Nostell Miners' Welfare was called off after an 11am inspection.
