FARSLEY Celtic consolidated their current spot in the play-off places in the Premier Division with a comprehensive 4-0 home win over Whitby Town as the Evo-Stik League run-in enters the final stages.

The Celts have just seven league games remaining, plus the West Riding County Cup final a week on Tuesday, and they are fifth in the table with a three-point cushion on the chasing pack after last night.

Adam Lakeland’s men took a slender lead into half-time, after Lewis Turner had converted Luke Parkin’s excellent 40th-minute cross, but a quick-fire brace from Nathan Cartman in the second half put the game beyond the visitors.

Whitby were stunned as Cartman netted two in two minutes either side of the hour mark.

The pocket dynamo was on hand to stab the ball home after Adam Clayton had headed down a Parkin corner and soon after he beat the offside trap before stroking in his second of the night.

The best was saved for last as Parkin picked up possession inside the visitors’ half before launching a shot from distance that gave Seasiders’ keeper Jack Norton no chance.

Brighouse Town boosted their chances of avoiding the drop in Division One with a three-point haul from a seven-goal thriller of a derby clash at Ossett Town.

Vill Powell’s men took a third minute lead when Aaron Martin netted a curling shot after Gabby Johnson’s lay off, but the home side didn’t let Brighouse have it all their own way.

Ossett levelled through Anthony Mackie in the eighth minute. The visitors snatched the lead back when Oliver Crowley converted a Danny Grimshaw cross before Martin bagged his brace with a back post header on the quarter hour mark, Grimshaw again claiming the assist.

It was 2-3 midway through the first half as the home side pegged a goal back, Martin Pemberton on target, but Martin went on to claim a hat-trick deep into the second half with a neat finish after cross dropped nicely for him.

The home side netted a consolation into the first of five minutes of added time when Alex Peterson made it 4-3 but Powell’s men, who remain second from bottom, held on for the win.

Liversedge were also away winners in a derby game as they came back from Garforth Town with a three-point maximum following a 3-1 victory in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division.

Dan Farrar had given Sedge a fifth minute lead but that proved to be the only goal of the first half. Joe Walton added for the visitors before Mark Simpson hit back for the home side.

Walton put the gloss on the win when he headed in Sedge’s third and it could have been a bigger margin had Farrar not skied a late penalty kick.

On a busy night of football for the local sides Campion exited the NCE League Cup with a harsh defeat Bridlington Town in the fourth round.

The hosts are in the top tier but it was Division One outfit Campion who played with more determination.

Brid won 1-0 thanks to James Williamson’s strike late in the first half as James Bicknell’s black and reds were thwarted by the woodwork and – when they eventually got the ball in the net – by an offside flag in a very narrow call.
