YORKSHIRE have a mountain to climb if they are to end the season with a Specsavers County Championship Division One win over Essex at Chelmsford, having been bowled out for 111 in reply to 227.
Yorkshire slipped from 90-6 at lunch to post their lowest total of the season before champions Essex reached tea at 24-2 from 17 overs of their second innings, leading by 140.
The White Rose have now been bowled out for 113, 150 and 111 by Essex this year.
Only Adam Lyth and Andrew Hodd made it into the twenties with 35 and 21.
Yorkshire did not have much luck either, with Gary Ballance run out backing up and Jack Leaning lbw to a Neil Wagner ball which looked to be going down leg side.
Wagner, Jamie Porter and off-spinner Simon Harmer all claimed three wickets apiece for the hosts, who started their second innings with 56 overs left in the day.
Jack Brooks trapped Varun Chopra and Ravi Bopara lbw in the space of three balls in the third over of Essex’s second innings as they slipped to 6-2.
But Nick Browne and Dan Lawrence steadied the ship through to tea.
