Yorkshire have been boosted by the news that star bowler Mitchell Starc would be available for the Friends Life t20 quarter-finals if, as expected, they secure qualification.

The Australian will break off from preparations for his country’s A tour of England later this month to play alongside South African David Miller, who is available for the entire competition even though any potential appearance at Finals Day in late August clashes with his country’s A tour of Ireland.

Ahead of tomorrow night’s North Division clash with leaders Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge, Yorkshire have also revealed that Starc has been made available for a Clydesdale Bank 40 clash with Derbyshire at Chesterfield on July 22.

He is also expected to play for the Tykes in their LV= County Championship match against Leicestershire at Grace Road between July 27-30, despite it clashing with Australia A’s three-day friendly against Derbyshire.

And, in between, the left-arm pace ace would play a last-eight tie on either July 24 or 25.

The competition’s leading wicket-taker’s availability for Finals Day on August 25 will be discussed between Yorkshire and Cricket Australia if that situation arises.

Yorkshire need one more win to qualify for the quarter-finals, but captain Andrew Gale is unlikely to play a part in their remaining three group matches due to an ongoing hip injury.

Wednesday’s County Championship match against Hampshire at Southampton is the target for his return.

Meanwhile, Oliver Hannon-Dalby has been made available for loan, having not made a competitive first-team appearance since last August.
