Aire-Wharfe League Division One leaders Steeton will be looking for maximum points at Guiseley on Saturday so they can stay ahead of the threat from Collingham, the side they meet in a showdown next week as the season reaches the halfway point.

Showing no signs of accepting consolidation as a target after promotion, Steeton have headed the table since week four and opened up a ten-point gap on third-placed Kirkstall.

But they haven’t been able to shake off Collingham, who are just two points back and in menacing form, which should make them too strong for Ben Rhydding this weekend.

However, the leaders are confident in the knowledge that they are the only unbeaten side in the top flight and have players in form, as shown last weekend when Chris Luxton hit 87 in the league and brother Andy followed up with 103 not out in the cup.

Otley were the only side in the division to finish a match last week, and their winning draw moved them up to fifth - a position they will look to strengthen at Burley, who are one place below them, having lost two of their last three games.

It has been a frustrating season for defending champions Thackley, whose rewards have not matched their efforts.

They have managed only two wins so far and were involved in two tied matches in the last two weekends.

They will be hoping for a change of fortune against Kirkstall, who have failed to punch their weight in the last few weeks.

With consistent performances from the likes of Phil Atkinson, Green Lane have emerged as leaders of a very competitive Division Two, and should retain that spot with victory over Bardsey as long as they can withstand the danger of potential match-winner Umer Yaqoob.

Harden are struggling to regain the form that saw them make the early pace but should be too strong for Olicanian whose only points so far have come from three cancelled matches.

Ilkley have taken 16 from the last 18 points played for and will expect to get the better of Calverley but the most intriguing game in the division sees Bolton Villas, who have won three of their last four, tackle promotion hopefuls Rawdon, who have lost two out of three.

As the only side to register a victory in the league last weekend, Menston find themselves in second place in Division Three but face a tough trip to Tong Park Esholt, whose sights are very much on promotion, despite a lean spell following four wins on the trot.

It looks as though the chasing pack are scrapping for one place to join a powerful-looking Colton side at the top, and it is hard to see Silsden, who will be ring rusty after two blank weekends, denting their charge.

Hall Park could extend their winning run to four matches at Addingham to keep in the hunt, while Horsforth should topple New Rover, whose only victory is over struggling Alwoodley.

Skipton found themselves climbing off the bottom of the table without playing last week, but to improve more they will need to cancel out the danger posed by Woodhouse’s Lequat Ali, who is capable of winning matches single-handedly.
