Burley face two tough matches over the weekend which could define their Aire-Wharfe League season.

Having won the Waddilove Cup last season and the league and cup double the year before, Nick Brook’s side have had an up and down start to this campaign.

They have three wins and three defeats from seven completed DIVISION ONE games, plus a good cup victory over Guiseley.

The next stage in the defence of the cup comes on Sunday when they host Beckwithshaw, the side that bowled them out for 57 on the opening day of the season. But before that they face a tricky league match at Kirkstall Educational.

Kirkstall are currently third in the table, eight points behind second-placed Collingham, and head a group of seven sides separated by only five points.

Having lost two of their last three games, Burley are in the middle of that bunch and need to get on a winning run if they are to challenge the leaders.

But they will take heart from the fact that Follifoot showed last week that the ‘Eddies’ are far from invincible.

Leaders Steeton, the only unbeaten side in the top two divisions, should maintain that record at home to Ben Rhydding, although the visitors showed plenty of fighting spirit in a tie with Thackley last week.

Guiseley, who were bowled out for 91 last time out, are at Beckwithshaw, for whom Istikhar Hussain has taken five wickets in each of his last two matches, while Otley entertain Follifoot.

Thackley are struggling to turn domination into wins and have probably the hardest task of the day as they travel to Collingham, who have dropped only two points in their last five games.

Green Lane are also in hot form that has taken them to the top of DIVISION TWO and they should still be there after visiting struggling Upper Wharfedale.

Rawdon have slipped to fourth and need to recapture early-season form against second-placed Pool, while early pace-setters Harden – who suffered their first defeat last week – host a Bolton Villas side who have won three of their last four.

With Alex Bailey on a high after his second century of the season, Ilkley should continue a five-match unbeaten run at Knaresborough, a fixture that is repeated on Sunday in the cup.

Olicanian, already eight points adrift at the bottom, need to start picking up points as they travel to Calverley, who have started to show better form of late.

Three wins in a row have lifted Hall Park to third in DIVISION THREE and they should be too strong for New Rover, while Horsforth will hope to build on their win over Woodhouse against bottom side Skipton.

Tong Park Esholt need to bounce back at Silsden after losing ground on leaders Colton last week, while Addingham will do well to take any points off Illingworth, who have moved up to second place.

Menston’s game was washed out last week but they should pick up all six points at home to Alwoodley.

Sunday’s other WADDILOVE CUP ties see Harden with the chance to pull off a giant-killing at home to Follifoot, Ben Rhydding should go through against Adel, Green Lane will expect to win the all-Division Two clash at North Leeds and Calverley will be favourites at Silsden.

But perhaps the most mouth-watering tie sees table-topping Steeton travel to defending champions Thackley.

Steeton got the better of a draw when the sides met in the league two weeks ago but, with the league possibly out of their reach, Thackley will be keen to put their name on the cup for the first time in their history.
