Harold ‘Dickie’ Bird was the special guest at Haworth Cricket Club’s end-of-season presentation event.

The internationally-renowned umpire and former Yorkshire and Leicestershire player presented the awards at the Mewies Solicitors Craven League outfit’s ‘Big Night Out’ at Sandal Farm in Thornton, Bradford.

After answering questions on the game, including what he thought of the new umpire-decision-review system, he posed for pictures and signed autographs.

Assistant club secretary Kath Gower said: “We must say a huge thanks to Dickie and his team from The Dickie Bird Foundation – they made an excellent evening very special.”

The club, who have supported The Dickie Bird Foundation charity – which helps youngsters achieve their potential in a wide range of sports – were also celebrating a historic year.

This season saw the opening of the new social room, built with the help of a Big Lottery Fund grant.

The club’s second team also won Division Five, gaining promotion.

Among those receiving awards from Dickie was under-17 player Harry Reynoldson, who won the Tom Barritt Trophy for the outstanding young player of the year.

Harry was also presented with a bat given by second- team captain Derek Bright for his success behind the stumps.

Derek received a framed cigarette-card collection, donated by life member Colin Deakin, for his role in securing promotion.

Dickie also presented a bat to young ster James Reynoldson – also donated by Colin – for scoring over 350 runs last season.
