Simon Mason scored a spectacular first Bradford League century as Wood-lands became the new leaders of the JCT600 Bradford League Division One.

Mason, who signed from Yorkshire League club York in the close season, hit an unbeaten 163 from 123 balls, including nine sixes, as they crushed Gomersal by 182 runs to record their seventh win in a row.

Scott Richardson gave good support with 66 as Wood-lands amassed a formidable 315-5 before left-arm spinner Chris Brice took 6-26 as Gomersal, who went bottom, were bowled out for 133.

Woodlands, who lost their first two matches, are ten points clear after previous leaders Farsley went down to a 63-run home defeat against Manningham Mills.

Mills set Farsley a stiff challenge by making 284-6 as overseas player Imran Khalid followed up his century in the previous week’s win over East Bierley by top-scoring with 89, while Masood Ahmed made 69.

Lorenzo Ingram led Farsley’s challenge with 62 to take his season’s tally to 775 but lacked support as the hosts were dismissed for 221.

Third-placed Bradford & Bingley suffered their second defeat in a row as they lost at Pudsey St Law-rence by four wickets.

Bingley lost their last eight wickets for 51, with off-spinner Steve Watts taking 6-48 after a second-wicket stand of 140 between Naweed Ghany (79) and Scott Etherington (60) had given them a strong foundation.

Openers Mark Robertshaw (36) and Adam Waite (32) gave St Lawrence a good start before David Stiff completed their victory with a pugnacious innings of 62 that included five sixes.

Hanging Heaton opener Mark Lawson scored 140 to help Hanging Heaton move into fourth place by beating Undercliffe by 27 runs in a match that produced 555 runs.

The former Yorkshire leg spinner shared a second-wicket stand of 155 with Joe Fraser, who scored 57, while James Stansfield chipped in with 47 not out to enable Hanging Heaton to make an impressive 291-4.

Second-team batsman Zarak Khan led Undercliffe’s reply with 85 but they were bowled out for 264 as Hanging Heaton captain John Carruthers took 5-72.

Yorkshire paceman James Lee took 5-49 as Cleck-heaton beat East Bierley away by 56 runs. Mark Cummins made 73 as Cleck totalled 199-7 before bowling out Bierley for 143.
