Yorkshire president Ray Illingworth is recovering well after suffering a heart attack in April.

Pudsey born Illingworth celebrated his 79th birthday last week and is hoping to be back watching cricket at Headingley before the end of the t20 campaign.

“I am starting to get out and about now and I am beginning to feel much better,” he said.

“I would like to thank everyone for all the kind messages and cards they have sent me, I appreciate it very much.”

The 78-year-old is in his second and final year as president of Yorkshire – the county of his birth.

He played for the White Rose and Leicestershire, scoring 24,134 first-class runs and taking 2,072 wickets.

Illingworth appeared in 61 Tests and three one-day internationals and also served England as Test team manager and chairman of selectors.
