Thackley Thundercats have won the Carlsberg Undercliffe Twenty20 Competition for the first time.

They lifted the Joan Peel Trophy last night after chased down a competitive score by Jer Lane Juggernauts, who made 173-6, with captain Michael Hustler top-scoring with 80.

In reply, the Thundercats, who had successfully scored 168 in their semi-final against holders Windhill Warriors on Tuesday night, again paced their reply to perfection.

Although Leon Harber went cheaply, guest player James Lee top-scored with 50, and Sam Wilkinson (41 not out) and captain Dean Skillicorn (22 not out) saw the Thundercats to victory.

They had defeated the Warriors by six wickets after the latter had made 168-5, including 88 by Undercliffe old boy Mark Gilliver.

He relished the batting-friendly conditions and sent the ball to all corners of the ground in a entertaining innings.

In reply, the Thundercats made a steady start with captain Harber and Lee taking advantage of the fielding restrictions in the first six overs and picking the runs up at a steady run a ball.

After Harber departed for 34, Lee continued to score freely and compiled a match-winning 56.

It was left to Joe Ollerenshaw (18 not out) and Majid Khan (12 not out) to take the Thundercats to the final.
