Ismail Dawood did his reputation no harm as East Bierley progressed to the last 32 of the ECB Club Championship.

The former Northamptonshire, Worcestershire, Glamorgan and Yorkshire keeper took three stumpings off Lee Goddard as Bierley defeated Townville by 145 runs at South View Road.

Ashley Mackereth, James Glynn and Alex Page all became victims, and Bierley’s cricket manager Ray Davis said: “Ishy is the best stumper in the JCT600 Bradford League bar none.

"He stands up, takes the ball so cleanly and whips the bails off before you can blink.”

Goddard won the toss and batted, Bierley racking up 307-6 off their 45 overs, Gavin Hamilton (85 off 63 balls) and Gharib Razak (36 off 47) putting on 136 for the first wicket.

Goddard (47 off 40) and Tom Owens (62 not out off 66) ensured the pace didn’t slacken, and Townville were always behind the eight ball once opener Tim Walton was trapped lbw by Paul Hutchison first ball.

Only No 3 Jonny Booth made a noteworthy score as Goddard (3-29), Kez Ahmed (3-45) and Oliver Ashford (2-37) restricted the Central Yorkshire League side to 162.

Bierley will be at home to either Mansfield Hosiery, who beat them last year in a bowl-out, or Hyde in the next round, also at Bierley.
