Batsmen were in the ascendancy in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League on Saturday with 11 totals over 200.

But strangely enough, none of the top three in the First Division got anywhere near that mark.

Joint leaders Haworth Road entertained Cononley and dismissed them for 85, with Andy Gudgeon claiming 5-15.

The Baildon Bottom side cruised home for the loss of two wickets, led by Charlie Hainsworth with 30.

The other joint leaders Haworth met third-placed Bingley Congs at Beckfoot Lane, and went down by 27 runs in a low-scoring game.

Reece White (7-39) and Damian Rowell (3-46) had the home side back in the hut for 111. The Bronte side crashed to 21-6 before Damian Rowell, batting at No 8, hit 52no to slightly rescue the cause which closed on 84 all out, with Adie Dibb (6-37) and Neil Copping (4-43) doing the damage with the ball.

Congs are second, a point behind Haworth Road, and two points in front of Haworth, who are third.

Four clubs are in joint fourth, just a point behind Haworth.

Cullingworth were at home to Embsay and thrashed the bowling to all parts of the ground. They only lost one wicket in reaching 251, with Stuart Rogers making 100no, Chris Welch 68 and Omar Khatab 32no.

Duncan Ward (56) led the Shires Laners' reply of 151, with Khatab taking 4-47.

Oakworth were at Cowling and rattled up 236-5 in their overs. Robert Hopkinson (89no) and Michael Scarborough (56) were the main contributors as Martyn Dalby claimed 3-71.

The home side were never in the hunt and only 35no from S Hassan brought a touch of respectability to the innings, which closed on 104. Matt House (5-37) and Steve Filkin (3-21) were the bowlers doing the most damage.

Barrowford saw off Thornton by five wickets at Bull Holme. The West Craveners went first and made 169-7 with Kevin Pollard making 48 and youngster Jack Laycock 37 as Freddy Bailey took 3-26. Ajmal Choudrhy top-scored with 34 as the red-rose side reached their target in the 41st over.

In the Second Division, leaders Sandy Lane entertained Chatburn and sent them back over the border without the spoils.

The home side opened with 83 for the first wicket, which became 176-9 at the end of the overs. Luke Ellis (50) and Matt Roberts (46) opened with 83 and John Dennison chipped in with 47. Russell Braithwaite took 5-81 and S Bowker 4-48.

The Ribble Valley side replied with 144 with Mark Nuremberg making 58 as N Smith claimed 4-5 off 6.5 overs.

Second-placed Sutton entertained third-placed Airedale and it was the latter that leapfrogged their opponents. The Royd Hill side could only manage 119, which the Keighley side passed for the loss of two wickets.

Ingrow are fourth, a point behind Sutton. They travelled to Wilsden and figured in a high-scoring clash which ended with the home side winners by just five runs.

Skipper Steve Wright with a magnificent 113 and Stuart Wilson made 77 as they put on 121 for the third wicket to get the score to 257-5 as Chris White took 4-58.

In reply, Lee Humphreys (65) and Wayne Exley (67) put on 127 for the third wicket but the Hainworth side came up narrowly short.

Andrew Townsend (48) and Matthew Lutz (46) put on 104 for the first wicket for Pendle Forest at home to Glusburn. They pushed the score to 188-6 in the overs, with David Atkinson finishing with 4-51.

Glusburn’s innings was held together by a great knock of 104no from opener Matt Lloyd, and the Park Field side got home by two wickets in the 43rd over. Nick Daniel was the best bowler with 3-61 off 16 overs.

Embsay II put in a fine effort to see off the challenge of Riddlesden at Shires Lane. The home side made 211-5 in their innings, with Nasar Hussain making 95, Jonathan Coward 34 and Brian Hodgson 33.

The usually free-scoring visitors were kept in check and could only muster 159. N Razak made 48 as Waris Kamal claimed 3-35.

Third Division leaders Ingrow St John’s were in the runs again at Glusburn II. M Mansha rattled up 113 as they scored 260, with Richard Smith taking 5-79.

The Park Field side made a creditable reply of 178-9 with Josh Banks making 48 and Shamu Razak taking 6-75. Mansha took six catches for the Saints – three as an outfield then three as wicket-keeper.

Haworth Road II and Oakworth II are joint second. The former saw off Cononley by 58 runs, while the latter enjoyed an 83-run victory over Denholme at Cure Hill.

Adam Smith (76) and Robert Hollingsworth (42) were the main contributors for the hosts, with Luke Pickles taking 4-52.

The visitors were 51-4 before I Smith made an enterprising 62 – mainly over the leg-side wall – but the innings closed on 177. Smith (5-49) and Ian Jackson (5-57) shared the wickets.

Haworth West End lashed the day’s highest score - 297-4, with Danny Peel making a fantastic 147no as G Trueman and O Palmer chipped in with 43no and 38 respectively. Visitors Gargrave managed 198-9 in reply, with Will Smith top-scoring with 35 as Palmer took 3-28.

Crossflatts II suffered from 'Stag Day blues' at home to Eldwick & Gilstead. With only two regular players, the home side made 39 as D O’Hara took 5-13 and Andy Maude 3-10. The Dick Hudson’s side cantered home by nine wickets.

Skipton CI saw off Cullingworth II by 61 runs at Sandylands. John Stuttard crashed 49 in 23 minutes to see the hosts to 194-9, with Russell Hogg taking 4-43.

The Roydwood Terrace side struggled to 133-7 in their overs, with Martin Rendell making 69no as Stuttard took 3-19.

In the Fourth Division, Barrowford were knocked over for 135, with I Mehrban taking 5-40 and I Siddique 3-17. However, this was sufficient as the Grange Road side closed on 101, with Keith Parkinson taking 4-11 and R Harris 3-21.

Andy Greenwood took 6-26 as Long Lee II dismissed Bradley II for 82. The Golden View side strolled home by eight wickets, with Jan Haider, returning from Embsay, making 43no.

Chatburn II enjoyed an easy seven-wicket victory against Sandy Lane II in the Ribble Valley. Ben Threlfall (54) and Damian Gupta (35no) top-scored for the winners.

Two of Ingrow’s younger players, Ben Percy (89 and 4-21) and Nick Crook (80 and 3-37) were the stars of their 75-run victory over Wilsden II. Dave Collins made 63 for the losers.

Little Marsden’s Zukquarnain Tariq (54 and 6-10) was their star in their 80-run defeat of Pendle Forest II.

The top two in the Fifth Division, Thornton II and Airedale II, both had comfortable victories.

The Booth Bridge Laners hammered 290-7 at home to Pendle Forest III. Andy Bowker led the way with a super knock of 101 after evergreen openers Tim Gates (49) and John Roughton (45) put on 85 for the first wicket. Then Maurice Oldfield took 4-23 to help the Fence back to the hut for 135.

Veteran Trevor Cox (69) and John Pollard (55no) helped Airedale II to 190-3 at Bradford Road. Visitors Sutton II were undone by Alan Hayes (6-38) and were all out for 105, with Chris Williams making 51.

Derek Bright (7-22) set up Haworth II’s five-wicket win over Bingley Congs II in Bronteland The Beckfoot Lane side were dismissed for 83. Ben Bright (32no) led the successful reply.

Foulridge II pulled off their second win of the season up at Denholme II. Bill Lutz (46) and T Ellacott (41) were the mainstays of the Noyna side's 220-7.

Ellacott followed this with 4-39 to help the home side out for 161 with M Armitage top-scoring (73).

Sam Smith (5-55 and 43) and Paul Smith (3-38) were Skipton CI II’s stars in their 42-run defeat by Oakworth III. Greg Hudson (4-3) and M Clegg (4-16) were the Cure Hill side’s destroyers in chief.

Cowling II chased down Eldwick & Gilstead II’s 101 for the loss of three wickets, with S Shafait (7-43 and 56) being their main man.

Finally Tony Spensley’s 7-75 saw visitors Haworth West End II dismissed for 106 in a game dominated by younger players.

Josh Holy made 38 and Phoebe Robb, who has now joined the Yorkshire women’s under-15 squad, scored a commendable 16. In the successful reply, youngster J Smith made 39no and seasoned campaigner Ed Stanley 40no.
