Julian Thornhill led the charge as Calverley piled on the runs to set up their first Aire-Wharfe League win of the season.

Sitting third from bottom of Division Two and facing an Upper Wharfedale side that had taken 16 of their last 18 points, Calverley started as underdogs, but that was soon overturned when Thornhill and his team-mates got to work.

He hammered 18 fours in scoring 120 and shared a third-wicket stand of 110 with Imran Mirza (55). Charuka Rajarathna weighed in with a half-century as Calverley set the formidable target of 305-6.

With Rajarathna (3-24) and Ben Waller (3-31) picking up cheap wickets, the visitors never looked like getting near, especially after James Freebury (56) was dismissed, and Calverley cruised home by 114 runs.

Menston also went into the weekend without a win and looked as though they might be able to cause an upset when they scored their highest total of the season so far 226-7 against leaders Steeton.

John Storey led the way with 73 not out, with Adam Campion scoring 67.

But their bowlers couldn’t match the batting and John Akrigg (88) and Shane McNamara (43) made sure the visitors won by five wickets.

The other team without a win, Tong Park Esholt, had a thrilling match against Bolton Villas but came away empty-handed.

Fawad Maqsood (50) was the only Park batsman to defy Sam Lawrence (6-65) and Umer Yaqoob (4-37) as they were skittled out for 103.

But Nadeem Hanif (5-47) and Mick Scott (3-54) had Villas on the back foot until Yaqoob came in and smashed 23 in six balls to clinch a two-wicket win.

Andrew Wear hit an unbeaten 78 in Harden’s 180-6 but Ben Rhydding made sure they stay in second place, thanks to 42 from Lewis Bolton, newly signed from Otley, and 65 not out from Jason Wright.

Olicanian could only muster 120, a total Knaresborough passed in 37.4 overs.

The top three in Division One all had to settle for draws but leaders Thackley extended their advantage to seven points by having the better of things against Guiseley.

Joe Ollerenshaw and Bradley Goodall each scored 40 in Thackley’s 211-9, while Callum Fraser (46) and Robert Butterfield (41no) made sure Guiseley picked up two valuable points that moved them out of the bottom two.

Chasing Kirkstall’s 255, Green Lane needed 16 for victory off the final over after a telling contribution from Yasser Ali (89), but they could only manage ten and had to settle for two points.

Stewart Smith (52) and Ricky Halloran (48) tried to get Otley past Adel’s 254-8 but they fell well short and also had to be satisfied with two points.

Nick Brook took 7-61 to restrict Bilton to 173-9 but Burley then collapsed to 32-6. Sajad Ali, recently signed from Manningham Mills, did his best to salvage something, coming in with the score at 23 and ninth out after a brilliant 73, but Burley were finally all out for 148.

Rawdon’s woes continued when Follifoot eased past their 189-9 with nine wickets in hand.

Another new signing, Zarshad Khan was the star as Silsden slowed the progress of Division Three leaders Bardsey. Khan took five wickets as the visitors reached 244-8 and then hit 79 as Silsden forced a draw.

Haroon Ali (5-37) and Graham Summersgill (81) took the plaudits as Skipton took five points off Alwoodley, while a defiant stand between Daryl Robinson (65no) and Jason Smith (37no) ensured Addingham avoided defeat at New Rover.

Set to chase 312-8 by Woodhouse, Ilkley started well and stood at 71-1 thanks to the efforts of Rory Kroon (52) and Jake Bezant (49). But they then crashed to 103-5 and were eventually dismissed for 163.

A battling 80 from Adam Mabb couldn’t prevent Horsforth going down to defeat at Colton, who took over at the top of the table.

Hall Park’s Mark Scaife picked up five wickets in Illingworth’s 233-7 but, despite his 29 and an unbeaten 47 from No 3 Jamie Simpson, Park were bowled out for 154.
