Yorkshire captain Andrew Gale is still supremely confident in his side’s ability despite a winless start to their Friends Life t20 campaign.

Gale’s troops have been beaten by North Division powerhouses Warwickshire and Nottinghamshire after failing to capitalise on positions of strength in both fixtures.

It is a worrying trend that has blighted their season in all forms of the game.

Think Notts and Hampshire in the Championship at Headingley; think Holland in the Clydesdale Bank 40, also at Headingley.

Their 20-over plight is far from irreparable, since they may qualify with eight wins from their remaining 14 group matches.

But a home defeat against whipping boys Worcestershire on Thursday could leave confidence at rock-bottom.

The Yorkshire squad are in the midst of three days of rest, recuperation and specific Twenty20 training, which they have had very little time for due to the hectic schedule of the last month.

Gale believes that will help them to turn the tide and said: “I feel like someone’s going to get a hammering sooner rather than later.

“We’re playing to 70 per cent of our potential at the moment. If everyone starts to execute their skills as we all know they can, even playing at 95 per cent capacity, the opposition will get a hammering.

“But it’s the same old story of our season. You’ll lose games playing at 70 per cent.”

The Worcester match will be the first of three in four days for the Tykes, who also travel to Old Trafford for the Roses match on Friday before returning to Headingley to face Northamptonshire on Sunday.

It is a crucial period of their summer and one they need to be in tip-top condition for.

Gale said: “The boys have got to pick themselves up pretty quickly. You obviously want the lads working hard on their skills and particularly their fielding. I want the lads to work on their diving and all that sort of stuff.

“But after the schedule we’ve had over the last three weeks, there are some niggles around. Somebody like Ryan Sidebottom has probably needed a bit of a rest over the last week or so.”
