Yorkshire’s hopes of winning the LV= County Championship appear slim after an astonishing batting collapse on the final day against Kent.
They were bowled out for just 130 at Headingley, despite resuming on 51-1, to set the visitors a victory target of only 90.
By lunch they had reached 49-2, with captain Rob Key on 22 and Martin van Jaarsveld 16, leaving 41 more runs to win.
The woeful display of batting from the Tykes was all the more disappointing after Adam Lyth and Bradford-born Anthony McGrath had added 30 runs to the total from the first four overs of the day.
Then, after Dewald Nel got rid of McGrath for 30, the wickets began to tumble.
At this stage Yorkshire had a lead of 52 runs but the remaining eight wickets fell for only 37 runs to leave Kent firmly in command.
James Tredwell did most of the damage, with final figures of 7-22, before the Tykes took two early wickets to boost hopes of a remarkable win.
Joe Denly and Sam Northeast were the men out, to Bradfordian Moin Ashraf and Ajmal Shahzad respectively, before Key and van Jaarsveld steadied the ship.
