The final Dales Council League promotion spot was determined on Saturday when Tong Manor beat Baildon B to move up from Division C East.

Meanwhile, relegation issues in Division A – where Pudsey Congs were already down – are once again under debate, with the second-lowest team escaping the drop under current rules.

This follows Hepworth-Idle’s second team finishing in a Division B promotion position after they beat Hyde Park.

With the influx of new clubs having more than one team, it has left some promotion candidates feeling a rule change is required if a second team continues to head Division B, so preventing relegation from the top flight.

Hyde Park could only field ten players after the Eid celebrations and were soundly beaten as Dale Wood made 51 in Hepworth’s total of 201-7.

Park, already promoted, could only muster 71 in reply as Danny Wilkins took 7-23 to seal a maximum 20 points.

This left promotion hopefuls Cookridge, having scored 19 points, still 13 adrift of the second spot after they had beaten New Farnley by 65 runs thanks to Ray Kerfoot’s 6-10.

In Division A, Baildon secured a victory over second-placed Farnley Hill which gave Hepworth-Idle A a lift into second spot.

Baildon managed just 165 runs, where usually the small ground at Tong sees scores of 300-plus.

But the start of the football and rugby seasons meant Farnley could field only ten players and, after a promising start, they had a major collapse to end on 152.

Mark Mills notched 101 not out for Hepworth-Idle in their 270-8, Sultan Mahmood taking 5-47 for New Wortley.

Hepworth then used nine bowlers in reply, with even wicketkeeper Danny Bailey having a couple of overs, and although Mahmood managed 96, his side fell short by 66 runs.

Shipley Providence, in beating Halifax Direct, put their opponents next to bottom after they were bowled out for 104, which Shipley overcame for the loss of four wickets.

Hawksworth escaped the drop when beating Pudsey Congs by two wickets but Crompark lost out to leaders Mount by 119 runs.

Phil Wilkinson smashed 107 for Tong Park which, with 61 not out by S Burgess, allowed them to declare on 222-6 fearing the weather might intervene. But they reduced Farsley to 140-9 and secured 19 points.

Shipley Providence B (135) could not save themselves from relegation after they lost by two wickets to Drighlington, with Jake James and Allan Mitchell claiming four wickets apiece. Nahman Tariq took 4-36 for Shipley.

In the C Divisions, Whitehall had the dubious honour of losing every match this season and will have to seek re-election along with Wibsey Park Chapel.

Mount beating Whitehall on Sunday, even though Simon Mace took 7-44, pushed Baildon B down into fourth place.

But Baildon C, in defeating Undercliffe, ended up in third spot after stalwart Don Butterfield scored 65 and Dawood Ahmed 64 to post 177. Undercliffe were unable to counter as Ahmed claimed 5-5.

The only tied match of the season occurred on Sunday as Pudsey St Lawrence B and Cookridge C ended on 162 apiece.
