All eyes will be on the foot of the Premier Division table in the Central Yorkshire League’s final weekend of the season.

Batley travel to Wakefield Thornes, Altofts are at champions Wrenthorpe and Ossett host Birstall in games none of the three can afford to lose.

Relegation beckons for one of them, with Altofts looking unlikely to pick up anything at a Wrenthorpe side who are unbeaten in 21 games.

If anyone doubted Wrenthorpe’s commitment, after winning the championship by a mile, they needed look no further than last week’s game.

Former Bradford League stars Gary Fellows (ex-Pudsey St Lawrence) and Bradley Parker (East Bierley, Gomersal, Undercliffe, Yorkshire Bank and Bingley) demolished Wakefield St Michaels.

The pair put on 130 for the first wicket. Parker made 54 and Fellows, needing only four to complete 1,000 runs for the season, hit a record-breaking 230 in Wrenthorpe’s decisive 367-6.

Such stats offer some encouragement for Batley but they remain three points adrift of Altofts and Ossett, after a 57-run defeat at Townville, and cannot expect an easy ride at fourth-placed Thornes, where anything less than four points will mean relegation.

Ossett have the best chance of survival against a Birstall side brimming with inconsistency.

Connor Williams has had a fine second half to the season but even an unbeaten 111 against former club New Farnley could not avert another defeat.

That win keeps second-placed New Farnley, at home to Northowram Fields in their final game, just ahead of outgoing champions Methley, who entertain old rivals Townville.

Liversedge skipper Simon Purdy had a 5-43 return in his side’s last game but they lost to Ossett and that meant a return to Division One for the Roberttown Lane men.

Mirfield Parish Cavaliers missed out on the Division One title, finishing runners-up to Hunslet Nelson, but did carry off the Yorkshire Council Supplementary Play-off title with a five-wicket win over Rockingham in last week’s final.

Fourth-placed Buttershaw’s defeat at the hands of lowly Woodkirk sees them needing a victory over visitors Moorlands to leapfrog their visitors and claim third place in this section.
