There were shocks aplenty in the Bradford Evening League last Wednesday as the top three teams in both divisions all lost.

Haworth Road put an end to Thornton’s unbeaten record in Division One thanks to Waleed Akhtar and Sahm Ali.

Both scored half centuries in their team’s total of 174-3. Ali then took three wickets, along with league prize-winner Andy Gudgeon, as the visitors finished on 132-9.

Yasir Abbas made 43 in Allerton’s total of 121-9. Zubair Patel and Kamran Raza then took three wickets apiece as Denholme were bowled out for 93.

Ben Burkhill made 53 but no other Denholme batsman managed to make double figures.

Baildon Meths secured their first win of the season as they surprisingly beat Windhill by seven wickets, while Bingley Congs’ recent good form continued as they secured a 21-run over Indian Panthers.

Tom Ryskowski (40) and Joe Lawrence (53) were the architects of Bolton Villas’ win over Division Two leaders Calverley St Wilfrid’s.

Their total of 125-4 proved just sufficient, as Joe’s brother Sam took three wickets to help his side win by four runs.

John Breare were unable to take advantage as their total of 132-7 proved insufficient in the face of some fine batting by Danny Groom (46no) as Tong Park Esholt won by seven wickets.

Bob Scott returned excellent figures of 4-28 as HSA were kept to 112-9, Crossflatts winning by eight wickets, with Dominic Bennett making an excellent half century.

Elsewhere in the division, Shelf secured their second win of the season over Cambing, while Sandy Lane were seven-wicket winners at home to Mayfield.
