The top three teams all lost as the Bradford League Division One title race took a dramatic turn.

Only 20 points separate the leading six sides, with Undercliffe’s advantage at the summit cut to two points after their two-wicket defeat at defending champions Baildon.

The two Pudsey teams, second-placed St Lawrence and third-placed Congs, also lost on a day of shocks.

BAILDON looked set for defeat as they slumped to 59-6 in reply to UNDERCLIFFE’S total of 168. But Harry Smallwood (41) led the fightback, supported by skipper Ian Philliskirk (21), before Andy Walker (25no) and Mushtaq Ahmed (21no) completed their victory.

Undercliffe paid the price for squandering a good start to their innings. Openers Tabbi Bhatti (47) and Mark Gilliver (37) shared a stand of 85 for the first wicket but once they were separated the innings fell apart, with Philliskirk taking 6-49.

BRADFORD & Bingley climbed into third place after a thrilling last-over victory at PUDSEY ST LAWRENCE.

Bingley had won at Congs in the last over the week before and returned to Pudsey to deliver a repeat performance at local rivals St Lawrence thanks to a fine all-round display from Naveed Gharni.

The Sri Lankan took 4-67 with his leg spin as St Lawrence posted 234-7. Gharni then top-scored with 76 as he set Bingley on the road to victory with a second-wicket stand of 115 alongside opener Scott Etherington (34).

Bingley had a scare when they lost three wickets for ten runs but James Davies (22no) and Will Briggs took them to within three runs of victory with an eighth-wicket stand of 33.

Briggs was bowled off the third ball of the last over by off-spinner Chris Marsden but new batsman Matthew Cockshott hit the next ball for four to win the match.

Opener Alex Stead (57) and skipper James Smith (56) were St Lawrence’s top scorers.

CLECKHEATON had three half-century makers – Ian Nicholson (75), Mally Nicholson (58no) and Mark Walmsley (54) – as they made 241-7 at home to PUDSEY CONGS.

The visitors slid to 49-4 in reply and never recovered, going down by 85 runs despite a defiant 54 from Eugene Burzler which included five sixes.

WOODLANDS completed a six-wicket win at under-strength bottom club Bankfoot.

Paceman Sarfraz Ahmed (4-39) and slow left-arm spinner Chris Brice (4-19) led the attack as Bankfoot were bowled out for 128 and remain anchored at the bottom.

They are 30 points adrift of Saltaire, who went down to a crushing 146-run home defeat against Gomersal.

Rob Burton took 5-47 and Shahzaib Khan 3-31 as Saltaire were bowled out for a mere 106 in reply to Gomersal’s 252-5. Adam Greenwood (66no) and opener Andy Gorrod (58) were top scorers.
