Yorkshire were left to rue a damaging last five overs in the field against Leicestershire today as they missed the chance to move to second in the Friends Provident Twenty20 North Division.

Matthew Hoggard returned to Headingley and departed with a six-run win thanks in the main to James Taylor's brilliant 62 not out off 28 balls, helping his side post 175 for four after they scored 69 runs in the last five overs.

Bradfordian Adil Rashid's career best four for 20 from four overs was in vain as Yorkshire slumped to 25 for three in reply.

The White Rose, who have now lost five and won five of their ten matches so far, were eventually restricted to 169 for eight.

And Rich Pyrah punted a Hoggard full toss down the throat of James Benning at wide long on, needing to hit a six off the last ball to force a tie.

Captain Andrew Gale will not play in the Roses County Championship match at Old Trafford tomorrow due to England Lions duty.

Having top-scored with 52 off 39 balls, he said: "I've just said to the boys 'If you lose one session, potentially you could lose the match in the Championship'.

"We've got to be switched on."

Steve Patterson, Ajmal Shahzad and Anthony McGrath had earlier taken most of the punishment, but Rashid is now the country's leading wicket taker with 20.

He broke a dangerous opening partnership between Brad Hodge and Benning (41).

His first wicket was that of Australian Hodge, but much of the credit must go to Adam Lyth, who spectacularly took one of those jugglers at long off, dancing either side of the boundary rope.

The 22-year-old also trapped Will Jefferson and Benning lbw, and bowled Paul Nixon.

Opening bowler Nathan Buck then hamstrung Yorkshire's chase with the early wickets of Lyth, South African Herschelle Gibbs, for a golden duck, and McGrath.

Gale and Jacques Rudolph, who will captain the side tomorrow, shared 53 in seven overs for the fourth wicket, but departed in consecutive overs to leave the score at 88 for four in the 12th.

Jonny Bairstow hit 40 off 23 balls, while Shahzad hit two of his three balls off Josh Cobb for six. But both fell in the 18th.

Pyrah also hit a six off Hoggard in the final over, but missed out with the last ball.

Gale added: "We lost it the middle part of the game. We conceded 50 or so in the last four or five overs of their innings, then we were three wickets down early. We were always chasing the game."
