Birstall opener Connor Williams hit a magnificent 125 not out against Hunslet Nelson in their delayed Central Yorkshire League Jack Hampshire Cup second-round tie.
Williams’ innings was the highlight in a Birstall total of 254-4 and the home side were then shot out for just 71 as Paul Blakeley (4-11 off eight overs) and Richard Sidle (3-8 off three) gave the Hunslet batsmen little chance.
Birstall now entertain Methley, 56-run winners at Wakefield St Michaels, in next Sunday’s quarter-finals.
In the other last-eight ties, Wrenthorpe are at home to Mirfield Parish Cavaliers – who hit 277-5 with a David Winn century (112) at Oulton to win by 158 runs – Northowram play Townville and New Farnley, comfortable winners against Buttershaw St Pauls, are at home to Wakefield Thornes.
In the league, fifth-placed Buttershaw kept their outside chance of promotion from Division One alive with a five-wicket win over Woodkirk.
Jamie Robson (85no) and Chris Kellett (6-47) did the damage, while Mirfield Parish and Moorlands remain hard on the heels of leaders Hunslet Nelson and second-placed Carlton.
Premier Division Birstall once again failed to reproduce their cup form as they went down by seven wickets to New Farnley, Tom Suggitt (80no) and Ian Fisher (53) top-scoring for New Farnley.
That defeat leaves Birstall still only five points clear of the joint bottom two, Batley and Ossett, while Liversedge moved into third bottom spot by virtue of a 40-run win over Ossett that owed much to the batting of David Bolt (104).
Batley were another side on the end of a century as Tim Walton’s 124 helped Townville to a ten-run win.
