Skipper Nick Cockcroft led Ilkley to victory over Hall Park in the Aire-Wharfe League and, with Ben Rhydding crashing to a shock defeat, to the top of Division Three.

Geoff Barker (32) and Peter Kempton (36) gave Park a solid start, putting on 63 for the first wicket, and the visitors were still looking comfortable at 91 for two.

But then spinners Cockcroft (6-39) and Chris Quaife (3-39) got to work and skittled them out for 133 - a total Ilkley passed with five wickets to spare.

An unbeaten 94 from Charlie Swallow should have set Ben Rhydding on their way against Woodhouse but the other batsmen struggled against Farouk Allam (6-67) and could only make a total of 178 for nine.

Even though Nick Smith picked up four wickets, the home side went down to their first defeat of the campaign.

Third-placed Menston made hard work of beating bottom club Alwoodley, even after Charlie Dracup (3-26) and John Storey (4-31) had restricted the home side to 141.

Menston looked as though they might be on the end of a shock defeat when their ninth wicket went down at 129 but the final pair saw them home.

Zak Keune followed up last week’s 96 with a knock of 111 as Horsforth posted 238 for nine. But Skipton saw them off with nine overs and six wickets to spare, Steve Carling (69), Kevin Owen (41) and Richard Walker (41) leading the way.

A defiant 60 not out from Richard Hey helped Addingham hang on for a point after New Rover had made a formidable total of 261 for six.

Green Lane threw the Division One title race wide open as they inflicted a first defeat of the season on Beckwithshaw and climbed above them to second in the table behind Burley.

The visitors reached 242 for seven, the highest Lane have faced so far, but Joe Pleasance (82) and Michael Abbott (55) provided a good foundation, and Yasser Ali (65no) guided them to a six-wicket victory.

That allowed Burley to open up a seven-point lead at the top after they beat Thackley by 89 runs.

Nasser Jamal took five wickets for the third game in a row as Burley were restricted to 192 for seven but Nick Brook (4-28) and Mark Harrison (4-25) made sure of all six points for the leaders.

Andrew Doidge followed up a spell of five for 35 with an unbeaten 44 as Rawdon pulled further away from the basement with a win at North Leeds.

With Division Two leaders Bilton only able to take four points at Steeton, there was a chance for Harden to narrow the gap but they too were restricted to four points by Olicanian.

Jeremy Batty and Rob Verity each hit 42 in Harden’s 175 for nine, in which Bernard Hughes picked up four wickets, but, despite an unbeaten 81 from Craig Thornton, Olicanian were still well short of victory at the close.

Meanwhile, Upper Wharfedale edged a little closer in third place after a five-point draw over Bolton Villas, who could only manage 132 for eight in response to the home side’s 233 for eight.

Tong Park Esholt remain in the doldrums after throwing away a good position to lose by two wickets against Follifoot.

James Druce (30) and Luke Waters (50) put on 70 for the first wicket. Their third wicket went down at 104 – and so did the fourth, fifth and sixth on the way to being bowled out for 122.

Follifoot also struggled but, despite a mammoth effort from veteran Mick Scott, bowling 20.4 overs and taking three for 40, the visitors just scraped home.

Silsden and Calverley remain rock bottom after going down to Knaresborough and Illingworth respectively.
