What a fine season promoted Undercliffe are enjoying on their return to the JCT600 Bradford League First Division.

Their four-wicket home win against Gomersal yesterday took them to the top of the table after they judged a demanding run chase to perfection, enabling them to leapfrog Pudsey St Lawrence, who had a free date.

Tabbi Bhatti gave Undercliffe a good start with an innings of 77 as they chased the visitors’ total of 252 for five, and Ashley Metcalfe (40) and Farakh Hussain (30) continued the good work before wicketkeeper Luke Holroyd hit the winning runs with just four balls remaining.

Gomersal made a great start to their innings as Richard Gould made 74 in an opening stand of 120 with teenager Andy Gorrod (41).

Skipper Richard Whitehurst increased the scoring rate with a swashbuckling 67, including five sixes and four fours, while Shahzaib Khan made 34, but it wasn’t enough to ensure a much-needed win.

Pudsey Congs moved into third place with a 73-run win at home to Farsley. Andrew Bairstow (61), Gareth Phillips (56) and Mark Gill (34) were the main contributors to Congs' total of 227 for seven.

West Indian Lorenzo Inghram, who had earlier taken four for 36, top-scored with 52 as Farsley were bowled out for 154, with Andy Siddall taking four for ten and Mark Bray three for 52.

There was a dramatic finish at Bradford & Bingley, where the home side tied with Yeadon.

Bingley restricted Yeadon to 137 for nine in their 50 overs, but they found runs just as hard to come by and were bowled out with the scores level with five overs left.

Sri Lankan Tharanga De Silva was Yeadon’s top scorer with three for 31, while Chris Thompson was Bingley’s most successful bowler with three for 31.

Thompson was also Bingley’s top scorer with 41, but he received insufficient support as accurate bowling by skipper Grant Soames (4-26), Mahmood Rasool (3-31) and Andrew Robertson (3-45) frustrated the home batsmen.

Defending champions Baildon’s miserable season continued after losing at home to lowly Saltaire by seven wickets.

Nadeem Mohammed took four for 54 and Tim Jackson three for 27 as Saltaire restricted Baildon to 138, with skipper Ian Philliskirk (34), Johnny Reynolds (34) and Kiwi wicketkeeper Shane Gadsdon (32) all dismissed when well set.

Saltaire then enhanced their survival hopes as they coasted to victory thanks to an unbroken stand of 87 between Wasim Munawar (52 not out) and opener Tim Jackson (50 not out).

East Bierley beat bottom club Bankfoot by 91 runs after being rescued by overseas player Mohammed Azharullah.

Bierley were in trouble at 78 for six, but Azharullah made 57 to enable his side to reach 185 after Chris Brook (6-39) had made the early breakthrough. Azharullah then took five for 47 as Bierley dismissed Bankfoot for 94.
