There was very little to talk about during Yorkshire’s recent three-day friendly against India A at Headingley.

A day of rain on the Sunday meant it was just a practice exercise for both teams to have a bat and a bowl.

But there was at least something of interest to note on the final day when India A squad member Saurabh Tiwary, who did not play in the match, was informed that he had been selected for India’s full squad for their forthcoming Asia Cup campaign.

The long haired left-hander, who you may know if you watched the recent Indian Premier League, was named as the young player of the IPL after a successful tournament for the Mumbai Indians.

The MS Dhoni lookalike was told of his selection by tour manager Sanjay Dixit (who has had the odd spat with Lalit Modi in his time, as I found out when I googled his name) at lunchtime on the third day.

Dixit explained: “He thought we were pulling his leg. He didn’t believe it at all.

“It took some convincing to make him believe that he’d been selected. I had to show him the mail I received from the BCCI about ten minutes earlier.”

If Tiwary goes on to become the next Sachin Tendulkar, you now know where he found out about his maiden call-up.
