Michael Vaughan fell eight runs short of a half-century as Yorkshire threatened to collapse following a solid start against Nottinghamshire at Headingley today.

At 78 for one, the home side were looking well in control with Vaughan looking more than capable of making a big score.

But when Anthony McGrath was caught behind off Charlie Shreck for 36, they began to wobble.

The home side briefly recovered, with Vaughan thrashing Stuart Broad for a superb six over deep square, but soon after he attempted the same shot, only to find himself caught five yards in from the boundary by Samit Patel.

With Vaughan gone, Andrew Gale came to the crease on the back of his 138 against Hampshire last week but he wouldn't get anywhere near such a score, with Broad again the man doing the damage, trapping him lbw for just four.

Broad completed a miserable end to the morning for Yorkshire by quickly removing Adil Rashid as he was caught at second slip by Will Jefferson. At lunch Yorkshire are 137 for five.
