Shipley Providence laid down a marker in the Dales Council League's A Division with a 181-run demolition of New Farnley.

Junaid Ahmed's 88 helped Providence to an impressive 247 for five before New Farnley were dismissed for just 66.

Newly-promoted Farsley had an eight-wicket victory at Hawksworth after bowling out the hosts for 60.

Champions Rodley, who have lost captain Stuart Kirk to the Bradford League, scored a five-wicket win at Pudsey Congs, who had James Bragg to thank for reaching 138 on a slow wicket.

John Blackburn took five wickets for Rodley and the ever consistent Gary Walton (61 not out) was the mainstay of the Rodley challenge.

A much-changed, young Baildon side (130-8) handed out a comprehensive beating to quietly fancied Crompark, Donny Wooller taking seven for 33 to dismiss the Guiseley side for 74.

The other games in the top flight fell victim to the weather.

Hepworth & Idle had a rude awakening in the B Division after Leeds Sikh YMCA B posted 237 for three, Raghu Nath hitting 82 and Harcharan Seehra blasting a half-century in just 18 minutes.

Then Seehra's gentle left-arm slow bowling was the undoing of the Bradford Central League champions, taking five for 61.

New Farnley B ended on 188 for nine, with Kenny Irwin (78) and Mark Dodson (52) posting half- centuries.

But they must have been concerned when Baildon B, helped by Kash Malik (60), closed in on the target, only to fall 15 runs short.

Meanwood's Robert Child had a great start to the season, hitting 65 in Meanwood's 150 for eight before taking five for 20 as Rodley B were dismissed for 95.

Both the Old Modernians v Pudsey St Lawrence and Esholt v Halifax Direct matches failed to start due to the conditions.

In the C Division, title fancies Drighlington and Hepworth & Idle B both started with wins.

Drighlington skittled Baildon C for only 24, Ryan Woods taking six for 14, and Drig then eased home in four overs with only one wicket down.

Hepworth & Idle B were comfortably on top thanks to Brian Heaton's five for 31 before some hefty hitting from Shaz Munir lifted Crompark to 143.

Munir's 67 included nine sixes and he also took three wickets before the visitors eased home with two wickets remaining.
