Of 26 proposals for rule amendments brought before the Aire-Wharfe League's annual meeting at Otley Rugby Union Club, only two were carried.

They were that no overseas players shall play in any second-team or third-team matches without special dispensation from the league's management committee (carried 25-8)and the other was that third-team matches may be cancelled on account of weather or ground conditions at any time on the day of the match before 12.30pm (noon for the last four matches of the season) (carried unanimously).

In a year when a two-thirds majority was needed for rule amendments to go through, among the resolutions that failed were a new points system, including bonus points (lost 13-23), increasing a draw from one point to two points (lost 7-27), bringing the start time of league matches forward to 1pm (lost 13-23) and restricting bowlers to a maximum of 15 overs (lost 15-21).

Others to fall were bowling 50 overs in 3hr 10min (lost 13-21), banning overseas players from 2009 (lost 7-27), bringing Waddilove and Birtwhistle cup ties forward to 1pm (lost 3-31) and increasing the matches to 50 overs per side (lost 7-28).

Leg-side wides in Waddilove and Birthwistle cup ties also proved unpopular (lost 7-28), as did the introduction of fielding restrictions for both cups (lost 6-29).

Meanwhile, the league has reported what is believed to be its largest ever profit for the year - £2,551.

Treasurer Brian Warne said: "This year everything has gone the right way but in the future that is not always going to happen.

"Financially at least, we can look forward with some optimism."

The league's general account stood at £10,338 as of September 30, being swelled by £759 from the Peter Rowney Fund.
