IT proved to be a great day for promotion-chasing Carlton in the All-Rounder Cricket Bradford Premier League Conference Two.

Kershaski John Lewis smashed a new league record score and Jonathan Rudge took eight wickets for the second time in three games to propel them to a 217-run at Jer Lane.

John Lewis, a 21-year-old batsman from Dominica in the West Indies, made 237 not out, beating the previous best of 227 not out set by Alex Lees for Lightcliffe against Bradford & Bingley two years ago.

John Lewis hit 17 sixes and 25 fours during a 134-ball knock which enabled his side to declare on 377-5 after 46 overs.

Daniel White (71) joined John Lewis in a second-wicket stand of 14, but saw his record-breaking colleague surpass him as Championship Two’s top run scorer. John Lewis has 317 and White 302.

Shell-shocked Jer Lane were bowled out for 160 with Rudge taking 8-59 to push his haul of wickets up to 27 for the campaign.

Carlton are now just six points behind leaders Yeadon, who had to cling on for a rain-affected draw against Liversedge.

Opener Mark Hydes (75), Matthew Gibson (61) and Asad Mahmood (47) helped Liversedge to 276-7. Yeadon’s reply never got going and they salvaged three points by narrowly avoiding defeat on 127-9.

Hunslet Nelson are up to third after a battling 14-run win at Spen Victoria. Determined tail-end batting and tight bowling held the key to their success.

At 97-8, they looked in trouble after Abid Awain took 4-45, but skipper Will Stiff (29) and Mohammad Khan (30) combined to push their side’s score up to 151.

That man Stiff was also in good form with the ball as he took 4-34. With Patrick Hinchliffe picking up 3-46, Spen Victoria were dismissed for 137. Opener Sam Gatenby’s determined 58 was in vain.

Jonathan Crossland extended his run of good form for Buttershaw St Paul’s by making an unbeaten 113 in their 73-run win over Altofts. He hit two sixes and 10 fours to build on the earlier work of Kevin McDermott (63).

Amer Ayoub (42) shared a third-wicket partnership of 119 with Crossland, enabling Buttershaw St Paul’s to reach 301-3.

Ishmail Patel top scored with 78 and Callum Nuttall provided a late flurry with 54 not out at number 10 as Altofts were dismissed for 228. Wicketkeeper Jamie Robson took five catches in the innings while Kamran Siddique took 3-52.

Half-centuries from Nick Kaye (65), Ben Gundry (56) and Brad Lay (53 not out) helped Birstall to make 268-5 in their weather-affected draw against Northowram Fields. Opener Kyle Walsh made an unbeaten 50 in Northowram Fields score of 111-7.

Hopton Mills bounced back from their heavy defeat by Spen Victoria last Sunday with a 114-run win over Bowling Old Lane.

Mark Ashton (70) and John Bowett (40) provided early impetus before Umar Abbas (69) helped push the Mills total to 254-6. Ismail Nazir picked up 3-49 for Old Lane.

Arsalan Ijaz (40) and Farakh Hussain (34) were the top contributors in a disappointing Old Lane score of 140. Michael Carroll (5-71) and Umar Abbas (4-32) did the damage.

Oliver Appleyard (83) and James Van der Merwe (54) helped East Ardsley compile a total of 271-6 before rain brought a premature end to their game, with Adwalton 5-0.
