THOMAS Wood (65) scored more than half of SBCI’s runs as they succumbed to 119 all out at Thornton in the Halifax League Premier Division.

The visitors were 82-1 before Greg Soames came into the attack and that was the turning point. Their last nine wickets fell for 37 runs as Soames recorded 11.4-5-12-7, with five of his victims failing to score.

The home team must have thought that a win was on the cards but were dismissed for 105 runs as Oliver Benson took 5-25.

One of the shortest completed Premier Division matches took place at Sowerby St Peter’s where the home team were annihilated by Oxenhope after only 19.5 overs.

Electing to bat was perhaps not the best decision of the day as Joel Fothergill (5-22) and Liam Dyson (4-14) rattled through the Sowerby batting in 13.2 overs for 43 runs.

Joshua Fleetwood (22no) and Edward Jackson (17no) needed only 6.3 overs to reach the target.

In the Second Division the usual overall batting team effort came from Old Town at home to Low Moor HT as six batsmen hit double-figure scores, headed by Abdul Ghaffer (84).

The Moor’s Lee Broadbent was, however, the star of the day’s fixtures as his superb effort of 164 runs in 106 balls guaranteed a maximum return for his team.

He was disappointed to lose his wicket, with only two runs required to win, but will be more than pleased with his effort that included 28 boundaries and five sixes.

Captain Chris Welch (48) was the only Cullingworth batsman to trouble the four visiting Luddendenfoot bowlers, who reduced the home team to 98 all out.

In reply the Foot lost early wickets at 18-3 but the chance of an upset was stifled as James Stott (39) ensured the victory.

Queensbury recorded a welcome first win of the season at the expense of Stones at Old Guy Road, as five batsmen made double-figure scores led by Oliver Challis (40) in a 213-9 total.

Stones were in deep trouble at 7-5 and, although rallied somewhat by William Thickett (32), were easily beaten by 124 runs – Sammy Naylor-Loan (4-31) removing that top order.

In Division One, batting proved difficult at second-placed Great Horton PC as the home team, having been inserted by Bridgeholme, tumbled to 36-5 before the tail-end rallied to post a score of 119 all out – Awais Matloob taking 5-58.

That proved more than enough as the Eastwood team collapsed to 50 all out, their last four wickets falling at that score, with only one batsman reaching double figures.

Zuber Patel (6-27) was the destroyer-in-chief as the home team needed to bowl only 17.1 to claim maximum points. Mount’s middle-order Zahoor Munaf (73) and Mahmad Makda (50) were the match-winners for the Batley team at Clayton after the hosts had inserted them.

A 264-9 total looked formidable in the conditions and so it proved as the home team was skittled out for 118 runs, in the main by Fakir Laher with figures of 8.5-3-14-7.
