CLUBS in the Spenser Wilson Halifax League are being given more time to implement computerised scoring.

League secretary Tim Helliwell told the latest league meeting at Pellon Social Club: “We asked clubs to ensure that there is power near the scorebox for our computerised scoring, but some clubs have said that this will cause them issues, so we are not going to enforce that.

“But we will make it happen in time, so we ask clubs to bring it into being.”

The league have arranged three website and scoring workshops.

They will be held at Blackley on Thursday, February 21; Copley on Wednesday, February 27 and Great Horton Park Chapel on Wednesday, March 6 (all 7.30pm-9.30pm).

Meanwhile, Helliwell also said that the restrictions on Saturday first-team players featuring in the Sunday League could also be relaxed.

He said: “Clubs will be voting electronically to allow 14 to 15 year olds to play Halifax Sunday League cricket in order to develop their games.”

Newcomers to the Sunday League for 2019 are Sowerby St Peters, Blackley, Mount and Golcar, with Norden, Luddendenfoot, Bridgeholme and Mytholmroyd dropping out.

A free umpires’ refresher course, which also caters for new recruits, will be held at Pellon Social Club on Thursdays February 14, 21 and 28 (7.30pm).

A course for Stage One qualifications will be held at Broad Oak Cricket Club on Saturday, March 2 and a course for Stage Two qualification will be held at the same venue on Saturday, March 16 (also 9.30am-4pm).

Both cost £40 for online bookings but discounts are available.
