JOHN Breare put an end to the final unbeaten record in the Bradford & District Evening League as they overcame Hepworth & Idle by just four runs at Westfield Lane, where the Division Two rivals share a ground.

Runs proved hard to come by and Breare were again indebted to veteran opener Peter Kempton (33) as they struggled to just 108-7, with Kevin McDermott taking 3-16.

At 60-1, with McDermott (41) and brother Simon (26) going well, Hepworth & Idle looked well placed to extend their undefeated start.

But Chris Coates (3-16) had other ideas and the leaders capitulated to 104-8, with McDermott run out by skipper Tom Simpson in the final over.

The victory lifted John Breare into second place above Crossflatts on a better head-to-head record than their rivals, who overcame Halifax outfit Bradshaw at Bradshaw Lane.

Flatts set the home side 124-8, with Josh Brooksbank making 54 not out and Nadeem Safdar 36.

Waz Hussain's 5-12 made sure of victory as Bradshaw were bowled out for 113 (Matthew Crowther 37, Connor Ryan 26) after being well placed on 99-3.

In-form Bradford & Bingley overseas player Norman Ali made another unbeaten 50 as Raja's racked up 142-7 against bottom side Cross Roads & Daisy Hill at Windhill to lie menacingly in fourth spot, just two points adrift of second-placed John Breare.

Ali was well supported by Ijaz Ahmed (33) as Rama Patel picked up 3-49. Patel then capped a fine all-round display with a top score of 40 – but 3-4 from one over by Mohammed Shazad meant the hosts finished well short of their target on 92-6.

Great Horton Park Chapel are level on points with Raja's after a nine-wicket victory over Cambing at Ewart Street.

Perry Howorth (3-16) and Dom Anderson (3-22) held the visitors to 96-8, despite the best efforts of Jamil Qureshi (32). Nicolas Flood (50no) then eased Chapel to victory with 2.4 overs to spare.

Ciroc took full advantage of Adil Rashid Cricket Academy having a free week by replacing their rivals at the top of Division One by virtue of a better head-to-head record.

The latest victory for Ciroc came against Greenfields, who they managed to restrict to a modest 106-5 at the Karmand Centre thanks to Mushy Shah's 3-24, Adil Islam top-scoring with 24.

Raqeeb Younis led the reply with 51 not out as his side passed their target for the loss of three wickets with an over to spare.

Salem Athletic kept up the pressure on the top two by moving into third place, just a point behind, with a 14-run victory over Shelf.

Khalid Usman made 52 not out as Salem posted 130-7 and, despite a fine contribution from Asif Afridi (30no) – who was well supported by Mussaver Shah (25) – Shelf could only manage 116-5 in response.

Thornton climbed above Shelf into joint-third place, but having played a game more, after edging a low-scoring affair against local rivals Denholme at their usually high-scoring Hill Top ground.

Denholme posted what looked to be a below-par 99-9 thanks mainly to skipper Richard Wear's unbeaten 51 as Ross Parr grabbed 6-22, including a hat-trick.

Yet it took Thornton until the final over to emerge victorious on 103-3 thanks to Nikki Hutchinson (52no) and Ross Soames (35no), with Matthew Wear claiming 3-27.

The defeat pushed Denholme closer to danger at the foot of the table – just two points above Greenfields, who currently occupy the only relegation spot following Mayfield's mid-season withdrawal from the competition.

Tonight's games – Division One: Greenfield v Adil Rashid Cricket Academy, Salem Athletic v Ciroc, Shelf v Thornton, free week for Denholme. Division Two: Crossflatts v Cambing, Cross Roads & Daisy Hill v Great Horton Park Chapel, John Breare v Bradshaw, Raja's v Hepworth & Idle.
