PUDSEY St Lawrence were crowned Premier Division champions for the second-successive season after beating Bradford & Bingley by 88 runs in their final Bradford Premier League game.

Saints finished four points ahead of Hanging Heaton, who defeated New Farnley by 60 runs, and will now face Great Ayton from the North Yorkshire & South Durham League in the inaugural Yorkshire Premier League championship play-off at Headingley next Saturday.

Victory in that match will earn the winners a trip to Abu Dhabi to play in the day-night final on Thursday, October 27.

There were more than a few nervous spectators around the Tofts Road ground when Bradford & Bingley were 134-3 with 17 overs to go in reply to the home side's 245-7.

But anxiety gave way to delight as they collapsed to 157 all out, left-armer Charlie Parker rounding off his debut season by taking 3-5.

Yassir Abbas (46) and opener Jack Edgar (41) were the top scorers for Bradford & Bingley, who certainly made the champions work for their win.

Barrie Frankland (65), opener Adam Waite (55), skipper James Smith (44) and Chris Marsden (36) were the men who made sure St Lawrence earned maximum batting points.

Second-placed Hanging Heaton certainly did all they could on the final day as, like Saints, they gained a maximum 20 points.

They made 230-5, with opener Nick Connolly leading the way. On a day of near misses for Hanging Heaton, Connolly finished on 99 not out, which included two sixes and 11 fours. Rob McFarlane marked his return to the first team with 54.

There were half-centuries for Lee Goddard (53) and James Middlebrook (50) as New Farnley were bowled out for 170. David Stiff took the bowling honours with 5-34, while Muhammed Rameez rounded off his impressive first season with 5-43.

Bottom team Scholes finished on a high as they defeated third-placed Farsley by five runs.

The victory was set up by a solid batting effort. Openers Kasir Maroof (49) and Rizwan Ahmed (42) set the tone, while Yasir Ali (38) and Christian Jackson (37) also chipped in with valuable runs.

Farsley were then all out for 234, despite the determined efforts of Greg Pickles (56) and young Matthew Revis (55).

Morley saw their last chance of climbing out of the relegation positions disappear as they suffered a 93-run defeat at Pudsey Congs.

Morley might have fancied their chances when they reduced their opponents to 17-3 but the complexion of the match was transformed by a rapid fourth-wicket stand of 123 between Callum Geldart and Andrew Bairstow.

Geldart finished the season how he started it by making a century, posting 105 from just 71 balls with six sixes and 13 fours.

Bairstow, playing his last innings before retiring, reached 46 as Congs posted a total of 266-9. Overseas player Kashif Naveed, playing his final game for Morley, took 3-35.

Morley never threatened to challenge the Congs score as young bowler Jamie Allen impressed with 6-55. Henry Rush (32) was top contributor to a total of 173.

East Bierley, the team Morley were hoping to catch, suffered a 48-run defeat at the hands of Cleckheaton.

Mohammad Zaman hit an impressive 114 not out for Cleckheaton and shared an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 162 with in-form Ian Nicholson (62no). They came together with their side in trouble at 81-5, Zaman leading the way with five sixes and 14 fours.

East Bierley faltered against the bowling of Sam Wilson (4-50) as they were dismissed for 195, Fahid Rehman top-scoring with 53.

Priestley Cup winners Woodlands rounded off their campaign with an 11-run success at Lightcliffe. Captain Tim Jackson led the way with 55 as Woodlands made 190-8, before his counterpart Alex Stead responded in kind for Lightcliffe.

Stead made a superb 94 but his efforts could not save his side as spinner Chris Brice (4-24) and Kez Ahmed (4-44) ensured a winning finish for Woodlands.
