MUSAWAR Shah played a starring role as Girlington finally won the Sir James Roberts Cup after crushing Omars by 115 runs.

Skipper Shah followed up an unbeaten 53 with a 5-12 return as his side celebrated victory in what was their third final in four years after losing to Salem in 2013 and Bradford Moor in 2014.

Girlington, who won the toss and batted first in the Bradford Mutual Sunday School League showpiece, suffered a blow in only the second over as Majid Hussain trapped leading scorer Zahid Khaliq leg before.

Raza Gulzar and Manzar Naqvi (11) nudged the total to 26-1 after ten overs, at which point Rizwan Ali struck in his first over when bowling Naqvi.

Hussain struck again in the next over by having Farhad Raja caught by Ali for a duck and, with the score on 28-3, Omars looked in control.

Girlington gained some momentum as Kamran Mir (28) joined opener Gulzar at the crease to share a 43 partnership off 32 balls.

Mir was then bowled in the 17th over to leave Girlington 71-4 – at which point Gulzar, who had crept to 13, and Mushtaq Hussain upped the tempo.

They put on 65 in 48 balls before Shmail Khan bowled Gulzar as he was cruising on 44, leaving Girlington 136-5 after 24.5 overs.

At this point Mohammed Azad joined his brother Mushtaq at the crease and they began the fireworks with a stand of 74 off 54 balls.

Mushtaq was caught off Mohammed Amraiz for 63 but, from a score of 229-6 after 36 overs, Shah finally took the game away from Omars.

He and Azad both finished 53 not out, off 20 and 39 deliveries respectively, to close the Girlington innings on 296-5 after their 40 overs.

Omars' openers got a flying start with 12 runs off the first two overs before Girlington skipper Shah had Saad Mirza (9) caught by Mushtaq and removed Syed Imran Abbas (3) caught and bowled in quick succession.

Majid Hussain (15) and Ali (67) shared a stand of 31 to give Omars hope, while Ali and Qamar Sadiq (32) put on 82.

But only captain Khan (30no) put on runs down the order and Shah ended the reply on 181 with three wickets in four balls, while Raja finished with 3-35.
