ROSS Carnell led Thornton to an impressive Spenser Wilson Halifax League win over Sowerby Bridge as they climbed out of the bottom half of the Premier Division table.

Bridge were held to 183-6 by Mark Clayton (3-35) and Greg Soames (3-45), who also backed up Carnell's 83 with 35 as Thornton eased to a six-wicket victory.

Jer Lane edged a two-wicket verdict after restricting SBCI to 162-8 and were able to close the gap on leaders Booth to seven points.

Booth ended bottom club Blackley's recent resurgence with a 68-run win but failed to pick up maximum points while doing so.

Division One top two Queensbury and Oxenhope both scored the full 12 points to keep well ahead of third-placed Bridgeholme.

Meanwhile, second-placed Oxenhope bounced back from their disappointing defeat against Queensbury with an 88-run win over promotion rivals Great Horton Park Chapel.

This lifted Oxenhope 23 points clear of Park Chapel and leaves them 20 ahead of Bridgeholme with four games remaining.

Contributions from Craig Bartlett (89), Jack Barker (42) and Joe Ousey (51no) meant a useful total of 261-8 was set for the home team to chase.

This became even more challenging when Great Horton were reduced to 24-3 and a steady fall of wickets saw the hosts all out for 173, with Scott Mallinson claiming 3-52.

Denholme Clough remain 16 points clear at the top of Division Two after an impressive bowling display at Outlane.

The hosts were all out for 75 (Israh Akram 5-25, Waqas Ali 4-43) replying to 161 (Mohammed Zhabair Yousaf 63).

Shelf (194-4 - Dimbleby 57, Rashid 48no) beat struggling Old Town but the visitors put up a fight, having two wickets left with 193 on the board to pick up four points.

Upper Hopton registered their sixth win of the season with a two-wicket verdict over Clayton, who had been all out for 147.
