Yorkshire youngster Will Rhodes has won the England & Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) award for the England Development Programme Cricketer of the Year.
The 19-year-old all-rounder, who broke through into the White Rose county’s one-day and Twenty20 teams last summer, captained England to an encouraging third-placed finish at the recent Under-19s World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.
The left-handed middle-order batsman scored 76 not out in a low-scoring semi-final against Pakistan at Dubai in February, which his side lost narrowly.
He scored 71 and 89 for Yorkshire in an early-season Second XI Championship match against Nottinghamshire, the county of his birth, but he has found it difficult to kick on following a disrupted summer at that level due to rain.
“Clearly he’s an exciting talent,” said Yorkshire director of cricket Martyn Moxon.
“We haven’t seen much of him recently. He’s been away all winter and when we’ve seen him this summer, the second team have been so handicapped by the weather."
