There were suprise results aplenty yesterday in the Dales Council League, none more so than in Division B, where promotion-chasing pair Thornbury and near-neighbours Bradford Moor went down to shock defeats.

Third-in-the-table Thornbury were seeking their fifth successive win when they travelled to Hepworth & Idle B.

Batting first, visitors Thornbury reached 227 (Kamran Ali 61). For the home side, 13-year-old Jonathan Robinson (5-34) was in the wickets again for the second successive week.

In reply, Hepworth & Idle, led by the indefatigable Paul Medley, continued his excellent form, hitting 81.

Assisted by David Goodaire (52) and John McDermott (43), the Westfield Lane side knocked off their target (230-6) for a surprise four-wicket success.

Just as unexpected was the demise of high-flying Bradford Moor (144), who went down to a three- wicket defeat at the hands of winless Crompark B, with Chris Jennings hitting an unbeaten 54 for the basement team.

Second-in-the-table Pudsey St Lawrence (194-8, Adam Hopkins 59) slipped to a second successive defeat, this time at Cookridge B, who earlier made 234-7 (Ray Kerfoot 71).

Following the defeats of their three closest rivals, leaders Tong Park Esholt (223-7, Lee Burke 71) moved 18 points clear at the top after winning by 46 runs at Undercliffe, who replied with 177 (Jamail Ahmed 92).

The surprise theme continued in Division A, where the bottom pair of Crompark and Adel shocked their higher-ranked opponents.

Crompark, batting first at home to third-placed New Wortley, made 208-3, with Tom Bridge hitting an unbeaten 91 and Satnam Thiarra 81. New Wortley were then dismissed for just 92.

Cookridge (160-8, Jhangir Gulzar 60no) came unstuck at bottom side Adel, who responded with 161-4 (Saj Latif 64no, Mark Robinson 53).

Leaders Pudsey Congs (202-9, Adam Patrick 79) recovered from their two recent setbacks to claim a 101-run win at home to Farnley Hill, where Saqib Mehmood included a hat-trick in his 4-25 return for Congs.

Second-in-the-table Halifax Direct (207-8) made it six wins on the trot with a 55-run success at Leeds Sikh (152-9, Mohammed Iqbal 5-9).

However, there was a nail-biting finish at Baildon (182-9, Dominic Kelly 61), where visitors Hepworth & Idle (183-9) sneaked home by one wicket.

In the final fixture in this section, Shipley Providence (128-3, Humare Amjad 52no) recorded a seven-wicket win at home to Saville Stars (127).
