Woodlands’ hopes of reaching the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Trophy final were shattered as they suffered a 43-run defeat at York Senior League title holders Woodhouse Grange.

The JCT600 Bradford League champions looked to be going well when openers Sam Frankland (53) and Scott Richardson (44) put on 98 for the first wicket.

At this stage Woodlands appeared well on course to chase down their hosts’ score of 263-7 but they were unable to build on the good start.

Only Farah Hussain (42) of their remaining batsmen made a significant impression as Woodlands declined to 220 all out against Tom Quinn (4-36) and Steve Burdett (3-42).

Woodhouse Grange had built their total around the contributions of Chris Bilton (51), Nick Hadfield (45) and Mike Burdett (37).

Frankland (3-55) was the most successful bowler for Woodlands, while off-spinner Grant Soames was economical with figures of 1-21 in his ten overs.

Woodhouse Grange will now play Huddersfield League champions Hoylandswaine in the final at Wrenthorpe on Sunday, September 8.
