Matthew Fisher heads an impressive list of five Yorkshire players in England Under-19’s latest 14-man squad for a one-day tri-series against Bangladesh and Pakistan later this month.

The 15-year-old fast bowler from York is joined by Thirsk left-arm spinner Karl Carver, Stamford Bridge all-rounder Will Rhodes, seam bowler Josh Shaw and top-order batsman Jonny Tattersall.

But it is the inclusion of Fisher, who has played two Yorkshire Bank 40 matches for the county’s first team this summer, that will capture the imagination.

When the schoolboy from York debuted in the YB40 against Leicestershire in early June, he became the youngest post-war county cricketer.

"Whenever I see his mum, I say 'I'm sure you registered his birth when he was five!'” said Yorkshire’s director of cricket development Ian Dews.

“I don't see him as a 15-year-old. His maturity is well above 15. The only 15-year-old I see in him is his enthusiasm, which is brilliant. He has a lot of pace, and he's a strong lad. It's just a matter now of us and the ECB managing his workload.”

The first of six definite, and seven possible, one-day internationals is against Pakistan at Sleaford on August 6.
