Yorkshire snared their first Derbyshire wicket soon after declaring on 617-5 in the latter stages of the afternoon session on day two at Chesterfield.
The White Rose county were firstly fired by a record-breaking 275 not out from opener Alex Lees, who batted for nine-and-a-quarter hours, before Ryan Sidebottom struck in the seventh over of the hosts’ reply.
Lees’ score, including 38 fours and a six, was the third-highest score on this ground, the equal 11th highest in Yorkshire’s history and the highest since Darren Lehmann’s 339 against Durham at Headingley in 2006.
He also contributed to Yorkshire’s third-highest score on the ground and the ninth-highest in their history.
Gary Ballance hit an entertaining 66 in a century partnership with Lees for the fourth wicket before getting stumped off Wes Durston. The declaration came when Adil Rashid edged Mark Footitt behind.
