Sussex seemed to be in the process of establishing a strong position when the players came in for tea on the first day of Yorkshire's opening LV= County Championship game of the season.

Having bowled out Andrew Gale's side for 96, the visitors reached the break on for 53-1, leaving the home side in little doubt as to the quality of opposition they will face in the First Division this season.

Things began brightly for Yorkshire in the afternoon session but the departure of top scorer Jonny Bairstow, caught behind for 29 when attempting a pull off former Farsley bowler James Anyon, began a collapse which saw the last six wickets fall for 38 runs in less than 14 overs.

Chris Jordan was the star of the Sussex attack, the former Surrey seamer taking 6-48 - his best Championship figures.

Azeem Rafiq made 23 and was one of only three Yorkshire batsmen to reach double figures.

In reply, Sussex lost Luke Wells to Ryan Sidebottom, but Chris Nash hit Jack Brooks for five fours in seven balls and was 45 not out at the tea interval.
