Bradford League president Keith Moss says it "beggars belief" that Yorkshire are taking players from the Bradford League to play in the Yorkshire League.

In his speech at the Bradford League's annual dinner at the Cedar Court Hotel, Moss, inset right, said the distinct failure to achieve a better working relationship between the Bradford League and the county club was the low point of 2006.

A former Yorkshire chairman, Moss said: "The basis of our (the Bradford League's) concern, which was wholeheartedly endorsed at our chairmans' meeting, is the arbitrary way it is suggested' that players move from the Bradford League to the Yorkshire League in general, and Driffield in particular."

Andrew Gale, who had the Bradford League's highest batting aggregate in 2005, left Cleckheaton for Driffield this year, and we understand he will be followed there by Richard Pyrah (Wood-lands), Bradford League Division One's leading bowler and all-rounder in 2006.

Moss continued: "I must confess I have never seen Driffield (David Byas' home club) as a main provider of Yorkshire cricketers. I could make an enlightened guess why that club is favoured.

"Ask any Yorkshire player who has played in the Bradford League to name one of it's main attributes and they would say competitiveness - not too evident at times in the Yorkshire ranks.

"In a similar vein, when the Academy, which I know has our support, was set up, it was never intended that it should form the basis of a league side.

"The work of the Academy must continue but the members must return to their league clubs to continue their cricket education. To go from the most competitive league in the county to one devoid of real competition beggars belief."

Pudsey St Lawrence president Moss added: "Of course, we (the Bradford League) want to provide players for Yorkshire - just look at our record in that regard over the past century - but please let it be with the clubs who have nurtured and developed their players from a tender age. To cite that our wickets are not good enough is just plain rubbish. You have my assurance that we will continue to try and achieve a better dialogue between the two organisations."
